With formula fields you can easily make calculations between free fields in your list view. From numeric, date to text fields. Automatically determine things like the cost of a new order or the difference between two date fields.
To make use of formula fields you will also need to use free fields in your plan view. You can read how free fields work: Plan board: Additional fields
How does it work?
With the formula fields you can make calculations with both simple and advanced functions. And this based on your free fields in the list view. We will use a simple example to show you the power of formulas.
Imagine: the company Vloer & Co lays floors and want to quickly calculate the total price of an order. They have the extra field for "number of square meters" and the field "price per square meter". With the formula field you can multiply these fields together to get the total "cost" or "budget".
The starting point is the list view, in which you show your free fields ''Number m2'' and ''Price m2'' with the function Add columns in list view.
You want to multiply these fields to get to your total price. Also for this you use the button to add a column to your list view.
This time you don't choose a column, but a formula:
In the next screen you determine in the upper left corner which free fields you want to create a formula with.
You can click on the fields you want to use in your formula.
Under the free fields you will see all available functions, you can also click on them:
On the right side of the screen, give your formula a name and save.
When you have clicked on SAVE you will see that a new column has been added to your list view with your new formula:
When you click on the column title you can change the formula or the name of the column.
Tip: The vPlan formulas are based on Excel function. Do you want to know per function exactly what the function does? Then read more here!
